Research on rabbit breeding started in 1979 under the conditions of the Central province. In recent years research work has been directed towards raising the quality and productivity of pedigree stock, improving rations fed and studying semen indices and reproductive capacity. Studies have elaborated and introduced rabbit management techniques, standards for productivity and the direction of pedigree breeding on farms. Future work should be concerned with higher quality and meat and fur production. Introduction of Angora rabbits and biotechnology are also important considerations
