The article explains the salient features of the UNDP/FAO assisted project specifically meant to provide the technical expertise required to assist the country in implementing the plans for increasing fish production from marine, artisanal and inshore fisheries. The paper identified some constraints to the development of artisanal fisheries. The rest of the paper is devoted to explaining aims and execution of the project
