An on-farm experiment was conducted in Chaiprakarn sub-district [Thailand] to determine the effect of seed cutting on imported and lowland-produced seed tubers of Spunta. Cutting locally produced tubers into halves significantly reduced plant survival. The yield of imported tubers and those produced in Chaiprakarn were significantly reduced if the seed were cut into halves. On the other hand, no significant yield differences were obtained between cut and whole seeds when farmer's seed stock and seeds produced in Mae Tang were used. Generally, the yields obtained in the trial were low (4.08 to 17.51 t/ha) due to the heavy incidence of late blight during the growing period
