Effect of moisture content, trunk sections and pressure period on the preservation of selected lesser known species using copper chrome arsenate (CCA)

The data gathered on all the species studied, namely retention and penetration varied widely within species. Tamayuan [Strombosia philippinensis] appeared to be the best species as it has deepest preservative penetration and highest CCA [copper chrome arsenate] retention compared to Himbabao [Allenthus luzonecus (Blanco)] and Langil [Albizia lebbeck (Linn.) Benth.]. The relationship between moisture content and both retention and penetration is highly significant. The higher the moisture content, the lower the retention and penetration. This was noted on the three species. For practical purposes, wood to be treated must have low moisture content to ensure good preservative penetration and retention. The retention and penetration were higher in the top section than in the bottom of Langil and Tamayuan, while in the Himbabao, it was found inconsistently. For all species studied, increasing pressure period to 3 hours did not improve both the penetration and retention. At 1 hour and 2 hours pressure period the maximum preservative penetration/retention has already been attained
