Potato variety trial in Tsinsibai [Western Highlands, Papua New Guinea]
1993
Wiles, G.C.
The agronomic performance of 33 CIP [International Potato Center] potato clones which were introduced from Australia in 1991 were compared to the traditional variety Sequoia in Tsinsibai, Western Highland Province from Aug to Nov 1992. At harvest, crisp fry test was conducted on clones which had high yield and big sized tubers. Twenty clones did not yield significantly less than Sequoia. However, no clone yielded more than Sequoia. Of these 20 clones, four clones had small tubers and could not be considered acceptable for the PNG [Papua New Guinea] market. Crisp fry test showed that seven clones (384558.10, 384071.3, Kennebec, 381064.3, 379693.110, 384112.14 and Atlantic) appeared to have potential for processing
