Effect of sodium formate on silage quality and cow performance

An experiment on 24 lactating cows fed a diet containing grass silage preserved with sodium formate (SF-S) or unpreserved (C-S) was carried out. Higher crude fibre but not dry matter, protein, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus content in SF-S than in C-S was stated. The higher milk yield in cows given SF-S diet than in those given C-S diet was obtained. No effect of SF-S diet on milk fat content was stated
