Effect of nitrogen fertilization on the level of nitrate and nitrite contents in vegetables

The highest nitrate content both in carrot roots and in squash fruit occurred at ammonium nitrate fertilization and it differed significantly from the results obtained at all other fertilization levels. Significantly lowest nitrate content - both in carrot and in squash was found at leaf surface fertilizatin with 10 percent solution of Mixt-1. N MONO and UNO type fertilizers significantly reduced the content of nitrates both in carrot and squash in comparison with ammonium nitrate fertilization. A better effect is achieved in the second year of growing. Contents of nitrate in carrot roots and squash fruits decreased with plant growth
