The difficulty of predicting velocity distributions in horizontal slurry pipeline flow arises from uncertainty concerning the relationship which governs the total shear stress. Experimental measurements of velocity distributions are required to verify the models which have been proposed. Concentration distributions are more difficult to predict than velocity distributions, because the appropriate model is even less clear
