The paper states the lack of literature concerning diseases of Gastropoda, including snails. Considering the increased consumption of snail meat in Europe, it is necessary to devote adequate attention to the health condition of snails and food hygiene to prevent transmission of zoonoses to human population. The literature known focuses on snail parasites, nematodes, protozoa, acidostatic bacteria, snail injury therapy and healing. The Registry of Tumors in Lower Animals in Washington is mentioned in connection with cell mutation. Factors affecting health of the reared snails (stress, poisoning, excessive humidity, heat, cold, inadequate nutrition, excessive density of snails, predators, trematodes, mites and other pests, fungi, bacteria, ect.) are mentioned. Among bacteria observed in snails, Enterobacteriaceae were mostly detected. Angiostrongylus cantonensis, a parasite causing human meningoencephalitis mostly in the Far East, was mentioned and it was stated that probability of its occurrence in Great Britain is very low.
