Changes in selected biochemical indicators and in the genetic apparatus of sheep in the course of application of copper from industrial pollution

The effect of Cu from industrial pollution on 12 ewes in experimental conditions was studied. The effect of the dose of 2.65 g per head and day on a genetic apparatus, body weight and selected biochemical indicators was observed. The 1st ewe perished of copper intoxication symptoms on the 65th day and the last one on the 84th day. The body weight of experimental animals was evidently lower at the end of the experiment in comparison with the control ones (P less 0.05). The weight loss made 7.25 kg per 1 sheep. The Cu concentration in the blood serum found in animals of the experimental group between the 50th and 77th day was significantly higher (P less 0.01) than in the control group. An increased activity of enzymes was observed in AST already from the 50th day. The AST values were higher at the experimental ewes (P less 0.01) on the 50th, 70th and 77th day when compared with the control group and also the GGT on the 70th and 77th day (P less 0.01). The difference of C. bil. content in the blood serum at the end of experiment was between the experimental and control group on the level of significance, (P less 0.01). The mutagenic effect of Cu pollutant in experimental ewes was verified on the 14th and 42nd day by a significant increase of SCE-s (P less 0.01). The number of chromosomal aberrations of tested sheep before the start of experiment and on the 42nd day was not evidently different (0.024 +- 0.0149, or 0.04 +- 0.0126).
