1990
Power, Robert H. | Wijngaarde, Iwan R.
In this manual the Surinamese kitchen garden is illustrated theoretically, as well as practically. The guide is divided into two parts. In the first part a review is given of the more elementary biological principles, which are the basis of plant cultivation. Especially the relation between plant and soil, dependent on the weather and factors which have an adverse effect on the quality and quantity of the product are discussed. Aspects of the application of chemical pesticides are also dealt with. In the second part the cultivation and cultivating conditions of the vegetables are scrutinized. The proper way of harvesting, packing and the making of sowing-seed is given for each plant. The names of the vegetables are alphabetically ordered according to the more common name in Suriname. The local names, the family names and the generic names of every vegetable are listed
