Soil depletion and future of Thailand agriculture
1985
Lek Moncharoen (Land Development Department, Bangkok (Thailand). Soil Survey and Land Classification Div.)
Most of agricultural land of the country is not very fertile and also subjected to various degradation factors. Increasing production by expansion of land becomes more difficult, especially for corn and sorghum. Planting locations of these two crops are wide spread, where yields can be quite varied under diversified environments. Significantly, the yields obtained by the farmers differ to a great extent from the yield level obtained from the experimental field. The difference may stem from the failure in technology transfer or from different ecological condition. The latter cause can be mended by selection of suitable planting area, together with cooperation of relevant measures in solving problems of production.
