Water pollution analysis of the estuaries and the coastal zones along the Gulf of Thailand has included the BOD5 determination as an index of the contamination of putresible organic matter. The experiments on the influence of salinity on the BOD determination of domestic wastewater using dilution method and reconstituted sea water tentatively illustrated that the ultimate BOD at the salinity level of 32 % was relatively less than the ultimate BOD at the salinity levels of 0 and 16 %, with the Relative Potency Ratio of 2.5. However, the results indicated the unusual low values of the ultimate BOD, the unusual high values of the rate constant of oxidation and the high experimental variation. In order to solve the problems, the application of the Parallel Line Assay was recommended.
