Some composite soil samples from the rubber plantations of Madhupur tract of Bangladesh have been studied for their edaphological characteristics. The soils from the plantation area can be graded as moderately fertile. The soils appeared to be deficient in available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur. Extensive leaching caused by monsoon rainfall and high phosphorus fixing capacity might affect the fertility status of these soils. Soil physical and chemical parameters as well as the environmental conditions appear to be quite close to ideal for optimum growth of rubber plants in these soils. At the same time management has to be efficient and the needed fertilizers have to be applied.
