Yellow stakes of 3 cm. in diam. and 1 m. high covered with Tanglefoot were used for monitoring the flight activity of Phorbia platura in asparagus fields. The first observations show that: 1. The trap tested, is suitable for sampling, provided it is placed at the periphery of the field, especially at the sides with neighbouring trees and or shrubs. 2. The traps must be checked more frequently as we approach the harvest period and at the early fern stage when the young tender stems are more vulnerable to attacks by the insect. From a management stantpoint, these traps seem to be an indispensable tool which will permit us to set an economic injury level on the one hand and to avoid unnecessary and hazardous insecticide applications -especially during the harvest period- on the other
