1991
Savvidis, K.G. (Veterinary Laboratory, Ioannina (Greece))
The presence of cysts (1X2 mm) caused by the haplosporidian Dermocystidium anguillae was observed on the gills of young eels Anguilla in November 1988. The number of cysts which were found on every fish was varied from 1 to 3. About 1% of eels were affected. A similar case in another fish farm was observed in March 1990. In that case the cysts were smaller and their number varied from 10 to 20. The fish farms are located at the area of Agia Paraskevi, 20 km from the city of Arta. The young eels, in weight of 0.25g, were bought from England and France and the fish stocks are supplied with bore-water. The increase of the volume of in-water gave a satisfactory solution of the problem.
