A gas-phase O2 electrode was used to determine the photosynthetic potential of Ipomoea batatas leaves. The O2 evolution rates were measured at different combinations of CO2 concentration, pre-illumination period and water status of leaf, and compared to the values of CO2 assimilation rate measured by infra-red gas analyzer
