In order to contribute to the improvement in precision of data in field experiments on rice plants, the present study was made to examine how to make a precise estimation of the average value for one experimental plot, which is a problem for the sample survey method, in terms of the survey at the main growth period for rice plants. Concretely, the coefficient of variation for quantitative characters of rice plants in the field was clarified, and on the basis of the data obtained, a standard for proper sample size, an efficient sampling method, and an efficient survey method for dry weight and leaf area using double sampling and ratio estimates were clarified
