[Shall we improve the Latvian Brown cow breed?]

The 1994 review of controlled cow productivity in different regions of Latvia is discussed. The review data including milk yield and butterfat content in milk are analysed. The successful work of Latvia Ministry of Agriculture in developing and introducing the data processing system "The Cow" is pointed out. The importance of using modern breeding technology and the latest dator programmes to determine the value of breeds for the improvement of the Latvian Brown is emphasized.
