The perspective of beef-cattle breeding under present economic conditions in Latvia is analysed and compared with other European countries. The positive features and drawbacks of different beef breeds are discussed, the choice of breeds for Latvia is argumented. The desirable productivity of animals is pointed out. The possibility of the new farms to grow beef-cattle is discussed, the profitability of a beef-cattle farm depending on the number of animals in a herd is analysed.
