Pattern of physiological deterioration due to recycling of sweetpotato vines

It is a common practice in the tropics to obtain sweetpotato planting materials from the vines of the previous crop. The reported decline of productivity using this practice is being verified in a six-season study. The difference between using planting materials from the vine of the previous crop (recycling) and those from storage root sprouts (rejuvenated) on the agronomic performance of cultivars Wariyapola (traditional) and CARI-426 (improved) was found to be statistically insignificant.
