Generation of Trichoderma - activated compost fertilizer: its decomposition and fertilizer efficiency on coconut seedlings

Incubation studies include: husk, sunflower, cogon grass, hagonoy, garbage, husk/sunflower/chicken dung (C/SF/CD)-3:2:1, cogon grass/hagonoy/cattle manure (C/H/CM)- 3:2:1 and garbage and swine manure (G/SM) - 4:2. Efficacy test on organic fertilizer - Ammonium sulfate (AS) combination was conducted on Laguna tall seedlings in a polybag culture in a 3 x 6 factorial in RCBD [randomized complete block design]. Inoculation of Trichoderma at 2 percent showed that N mineralization was highly favored in G/SM, garbage and sunflower substrates with 246.88 and 202.82 ppm N. Decomposition studies showed that G/SM riped at 4 weeks with 2.08 percent N - 0.38 percent P2O5 - 1.77 percent K2O; C/H/CM riped at 6 weeks with 0.98 percent N - 0.07 percent P2O5 - 1.04 percent K2O while H/SF/CD was partially riped at 16 weeks with 1.21 percent N - 9.20 percent P2O5 - 1.13 percent K2O. Efficacy test showed that G/SM gave significantly high records on coconut seedlings height, girth, leaf count and dry accumulation. Application of 606 g/seedling of G/SM compost attained the highest N uptake at 15.67 g-N/pot. N fertilizer efficiencies were highest in 75 percent G/SM-25 percent AS combinations resulting to 107.78 percent FE. An application of 75 percent G/SM - 25 percent AS 100 percent C/H/CM and 75 percent H/SF/CD - 25 percent AS adjusted at a rate of 12.6 g-N per seedling may be considered satisfactory for coconut seedling
