Effect of different pH value in root environment on yield and nutrition level of carnations grown in rockwool

In an experiment with two carnation cultivars 'Amapola' and 'Hydra' the effect of the three pH levels (5.0, 6.0 and 7.0) in root environment was studied. The pH levels mentioned above were maintained by adjusting proper quantities of HNO3, H3PO4 and H2SO4 in a nutrient solution. The results showed no significant effect of treatments on yield and its quality, except cv. Hydra which had the highest weight of the flower shoots when the nutrient solution of the lowest pH value was applied. Although tissue analysis revealed significant relation between pH levels and P, Ca, Fe and Cu content in leaves, most of the obtained values were in the optimal ranges
