Effect of CO2, temperature, desiccants and storage period on seed storability of gypsophila (Gypsophila elegans Bieb.)
Suraphong Kosiyachinda | Sutevee Sukprakarn (Kasetsart Univ., Bangkok (Thailand). Faculty of Agriculture. Dept. of Horticulture)
Gypsophila seeds were stored in 0.06 mm. polypropylene bags containing silica gel 0, 1, 2 gm/4 gm of seeds with CO2 0, 0.03, 25, 50 and 100 % at 5, 9, 25 deg. celsius and room temperature (26-33 deg. celsius) for 12 weeks. The seed moisture content decreased from 13.88 % with increasing amount of silica gel and reached the equlibrium after 2 weeks of storage. CO2 or temperature had no effect on seed moisture content during 12 weeks of storage. However, germination capacity vigor and storage life were higher at 5 deg. celsius compared to the other temperatures while CO2 and silica gel showed no differences in seed vigor.
