X-ray induced changes in character association in some advanced progenies of jute (Corchorus capsularis) cv JRC-212' [in India]

Changes in the phenotypic correlations and path coefficient values were analysed in some selected early and late lines in M4 generation after x-irradiation of jute (Corchorus capsularis) variety' JRC-212. Correlations of fibre yield with plant height, base diameter and middle diameter were strengthened (+significant) among both the early and late selections. The negative correlations of days to flower with plant height, base diameter, middle diameter and number were also weakened in the selected progenies in comparison to the control indicating the effectiveness of selection in changing the association after x- irradiation. The negative direct effects of plant height and base diameter on fibre yield in the control population were weakened in the selected early and late progenies suggesting that better combination of yield components could be achieved following selection after x-irradiation.
