This paper gives a description of present developments in the dairy sector in various Central and Eastern European countries. The main source of information was the results of the IDF questionnaires received from IDF representatives in the countries concerned (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, The Ukraine, Estonia and Lithuania). Due to differences in interpretation, the information on the various countries may lack some uniformity. To put things in a broader perspective the first section evaluates in brief the general economic developments in Central and Eastern Europe.
