At the present time water is considerated as a limited ressource. Agriculture is a particularly great consumer of water and it is urgent to manage this reduction factor as well as possible. Models are confirmed to be good tools to study, understand and represent relations between plant, soil and water. A model must respond to the expectation of the user and must be adaptable to the particular conditions in which it will be used. After regional calibration, the American model EPIC (Erosion/Productivity Impact Calculator) performs in representation of the evolution of average soil humidity in wheat root zone, sowed in silt soil, under Belgian climatic conditions. After some modifications of the model, it has been possible to simulate the evolution of soil humidity at different depths of the root zone. In the field of water management (EEC Project 8001 CT 910109, Management of Limited Water Ressources), this model (calibrated and validated) is used to study the effect of soil practices on water balance.
