The primary objective of the present work was to evaluate the suitability of the Amelung-Coagulometer KC 4A, an apparatus for measuring blood coagulation time, for routine and high output laboratory measurement of rennet induced milk clotting time (RCT). The second objective focused on the comparative assessment of RCT results generated from three different instruments: Coagulometer KC 4A, Formagraph type 11700 and Hot Wire Technique (prototype assembled by coauthors). Measurement of RCT as a function of pH and the concentration of rennet were simultaneous on the three instruments. The high correlation coefficient between RCT of milk substrate (pH range from 6.2 to 7.2) as measured by Coagulometer (r = 0.996) or Hot Wire Technique (r = 0.994) and RCT of Formagraph, respectively, shows the accuracy and suitability of the above instruments in routine laboratory work for determining RCT.
