The economic performance of an orchard is a key element in ensuring the survival of the business. The performance of six orchard systems (palmette, central leader, bent axis = original Solen concept, Drilling, V-Guettingen, superspindel = high-density two-row system) are compared in this paper. The analysis focusses on the one hand on gross revenues, which are influenced by the yield, quality and market price of the fruit and on the other hand on the related production expenses, which comprise set-up costs, labour, machinery, inputs, etc.
