[Nitrogen fertilisation and quality of three new potato varieties cultivated in two sites of western Switzerland]
1995
Reust, W. (Station federale de recherches agronomiques de Changins, Nyon (Switzerland))
Field trials have been carried out in two sites of the western part of Switzerland with the ware potato varieties Matilda and Agria and the processing variety Panda. Nitrogen applications ranging from 0 to 140 kg/ha have been carried out at planting and at 10 to 15 cm plant height. All varieties showed a similar behaviour with regard to fertilisation, but there were important differences between the sites. The top yield was generally reached at 120 kg N/ha. Under favourable mineralisation conditions additional fertilisation often led to very little or no yield increase. Higher doses of nitrogen increased the rate of big tubers and slightly reduced the starch content, particularly in Agria and Panda. N fertiliser influenced neither the consumption quality nor the storage life of tubers
