The paper contains an analysis and synthesis of experimental results from research into cultural and productivity problems of thinnings in unmixed beech stands in Bavaria (FRG) and in Slovakia. Development of basic stand characteristics showing quantitative and qualitative production was evaluated for the same stand age of 42, and/or 44 to 66, and 69 years. The characteristics of qualitative production (mass and plus stand quality) of the trees and stand were followed and assessed by one specialist on research plots in both countries.
