The range of available moisture of arable rendzinas
1994
Kitse, E. (Estonian Agricultural University, Tartu (Estonia). Department of Soil Science.)
The range of available moisture (RAM) both in the humus cover and the 75 cm soil layer of arable rendzinas is analysed. The RAM of arable rendzinas depends upon the humus content, the texture, skeletonness, bulk density and depth of calcareous bedrock. The data presented in the series "Estonian soils in numbers II", compiled by R. Kokk and I. Rooma, for the thickness of the humus layer, the content of humus and physical clay (0.01 mm) and pebble, have been used. The average RAM in the humus layer of different rendzinas varied between 53...65 mm, being the lowest in rendzinas on loamy sands and the largest in slightly gleyed rendzinas on sandy loams. The variability of RAM ranged from 30 to 89 mm, the V0.05 reaching up to 43 per cent
