Annual flux of crop residues to podzoluvisol

In long-term field experiments performed at the experimental station of the Estonian Agricultural University plant residues remaining in the field after harvesting were investigated. The experiment was carried out on loamy Podzoluvisol. The amount of plant residues was determined with the method of sample plots 1x0.25 m in 3-4 repetitions. The samples taken from the field were manually separated into three fractions: crop residues, weeds and coarse roots. They were dried, weighed and the ash content was determined. The level of mineral-fertilizers was the same (N80P23K50) for all crops, but for rye and potato 60 Mg/ha manure was added. Crop yields for rye, barley, wheat and potato were 5.23, 1.66, 1.41 and 27.09 (tubers) Mg/ha-1 respectively
