The objective of the present study was to clarify the effect of hoof cutting on the milk production of tethered dairy cows. The milk yields per farm 12 farms in total) and per cow (19 cows in total) for 3 months before and after the hoof cutting were measured. The frequency of changes in posture, from standing to sitting or vice versa, on the 1st, 3rd and 10th days after the hoof cutting were compared with those just before the hoof cutting. The effects of the hoof cutting on the daily milk yield at each farm were not clear. However, the milk production of each cow from 30 to 70 days after the hoof cutting was estimated to be from 106% to 111% that of non-cutting cows. Numbers of changes in posture of cows decreased significantly after the hoof cutting
