The character of the red soil in Pyongyang peneplain is different from brown soil. Because the process of internal claying of red soil in Pyongyang peneplain is progressed slightly or not, and the process of basic factorial soil forming consists of the process of leaching and feritization, this soil is called as the old red soil or old weathered soil
