Performance of nine promising peanut lines under four shade levels

Nine promising peanut lines were evaluated under four shade levels, including full sunlight as control in July 1992 at the Institute of Plant Breeding, University of the Philippines at Los Banos. A split-plot design was used with shade level (0, 20 percent, 30 percent, 47 percent light reduction) as main plot and variety as sub-plot. The varieties differed significantly for all the parameters studied. The entry IPB Pn 82-71-26 gave the highest yield followed by IPB Pn 85-2-59. Lowest yield was obtained from IPB Pn 85-2-61. Shade level had a significant effect on the parameters studied except shelling percentage and 100-seed weight. Pod yield, bean yield, number of pod per plant and dry matter yield per plant were reduced while plant height increased with increasing light reduction.
