Effect of some selective herbicides on grass and broad leaf weeds in corn was investigated during 1988 on loam soil. The treatments were weedy check, hand weeding, pendimethalin 330 E (1.31 kg a.i./ha pre-emergence), dicamba 21 g per litre + mecoprop 324 g per litre (1.38 kg a.i./ha post-emergence), 2,4-D amine plus dicamba 21 g per litre + mecoprop 324 g per litre (0.44 kg a.i./ha plus 0.69 kg a.i./ha hectare, respectively post-emergence) and Atrazine + metolachlor 50 WP (1.88 kg a.i./ha pre-emergence). All herbicides decreased weed, population (67.9-84.1%). The yield increase was 26 to 62 percent over control. Atrazine + metolachlor; pendimethalin treatments gave 62.3 and 51 percent; higher yield than control, respectively. Increase in hand weeding was 48.6 percent. Atrazine + metolachlor and 2,4-D amine + dicamba remained economical over other treatments.
