Correlation between morphological characters of sunflower varieties and seed yield

Correlation studies on ten different characters of 46 sunflower varieties indicate that seed yield was significantly associated with number of leaves per plant, plant height, number of plants per plot, head weight per plot and days to maturity. Negative non-significant associations between seed yield with stem diameter and 100-seed weight were observed. Head weight per plot was significantly correlated with number of lodged plants and number of plants per plot. A highly significant negative correlation between head weight with days to maturity was observed. The results indicate that seed yield could be improved through selection on the basis of head weight, number of leaves per-plant and plant height.
