Protection of onion grown from seed against Lilioceris merdigera L. (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) by the use of the onion sets
1994
Luczak, I. (Agricultural University, Krakow (Poland). Dept. of Plant Protection)
Both under field conditions and in experimental pots Lilioceris merdigera laid more eggs and fed more numerously on the onion from seed only than on the one which was surrounded by onion sets. On the latter the onion grown from sets appeared to be more attractive to the tested pest. Following the numerous gathering of adult forms and larvae of Lilioceris on the onion sets which surrounded the onion grown from seed nearly 50 percent reduction in the number of this insect was observed on the latter. The higher decrease in the number of onion beetle (over 70 percent) was noted in the variant where two rows of onion sets were planted around the main crop
