Cladium mariscus belongs to the rush species rare in Poland. About 50 stands have been reported from Pomeranian Lake District, and several of them in Tuchola Forest. Three stands located at Zdreczno Lake, and Sztuczne Lake have been investigated. Particular stands vary from each other with respect to water conditions as well as bottom type, and respective plant communities are characterized by different structure and composition. Biomass plant density and leaf area index (LAI) depend on bottom type, water level, and advancement of phytocenosis evolution. The highest biomass and LAI have been observed in slightly inundated, characterized by mineral bottom of neutral pH, and lowest plant density areas
