Role of nitrate respiration in adaptation of plants amaranthus to flooding

The influence of two-week flooding on the activity of nitratereductase (NRA) and the content of nitrates in the tissues of Amaranthus cruentus L. has studied. It was shown, that under flooding conditions the activity of NRA was higher and the content of nitrates in the tissues was lower on the nitrate phone of nitrogen, than on the ammonium one. The NRA was the largest in plants roots after 14 days of flooding on the nitrate phone in the presence of molybdenum. We suppose that the A. cruentus L. ability to "nitrate respiration" is one of the causes of flooding resistance, because nitrates can be used as acceptors of electronics in processes of respiration under conditions of oxygen deficiency, and so nitrates can substitute oxygen
