Population dynamics of upland rice nematodes

Experiment was conducted under farmer field conditions in Sanamchaikhet, Chachaeng Sao. Processed soil samples revealed 5 important plant parasitic nematodes: Pratylenchus zeae, Meloidogyne graminicola, Tylenchorhynchus martini, Criconemella ornatus and Helicotylenchus dihystera, at 56.8, 19.8, 16.9, 5.9 and 0.6 percent, respectively. The highest nematode density of each species during growing season was in August for Helicotylenchus dihystera, September for Meloidogyne graminicola and Criconemella ornatus October for Pratylenchus zeae and Tylenchorhynchus martini. However, the populations of Pratylenchus zeae, Meloidogyne graminicola, Tylenchorhynchus martini and Criconemella ornatus, except Helicotylenchus dihystera decreased when rice was not grown in the season. Population density of nematodes in rice roots was highest in September for Pratylenchus zeae and Meloidogyne graminicola. The population of Pratylenchus zeae was highly related with Meloidogyne graminicola and Tylenchorhynchus martini. The fluctuation of Pratylenchus zeae and Meloidogyne graminicola in rice roots was highest in September.
