Some characteristics of three papaya (Carica papaya L.) varieties Khaek Dam, Tainung no.5 and Eksotika no.20 were studied. Eksotika no.20 took longer time to flower and the first flower was at the high position in the plant, circumference around the trunk when the first flower was born was the biggest, first fruit was at the high position in the plant, number of nodes from the soil up to the first fruit was more. The vegetative and reproductive growth of Khaek Dam and Tainung no.5 did not differ except the day to flowering and number of fruits per plant per crop, Tainung no.5 had shorter time to flowering and more fruit per plant per crop than Khaek Dam. The female plant had round fruit and this was found in fruits from all varieties whereas fruits in the hermaphroditic plants of Khaek Dam and Tainung no.5 were longer but in the Eksotika no. 20 round fruit was seen. Eksotikano.20 had the lowest weight and differ significantly from Khaek Dam and Tainung no.5. Fruits from hermaphrodite plant had the smaller cavity size than fruit from the female plant. Eksotika no.20 had the smallest cavity size and Khaek Dam had the largest cavity. Fruit from the female plant had more flesh thickness than that of the hermaphroditic plant. Tainung no.5 had the highest flesh thickness and Eksotika no.20 had the lowest flesh thickness compared to other variety. %TSS which Khaek Dam had the lowest flesh firmness and %TSS differed significantly from Tainung no.5 and Eksotika no.20 the latter two cultivars were similar in % TSS. Sex of flower had no influence on the number of seed per fruit and Eksotika no.20 had more seed per fruit which differred from Tainung no.5 and Khaek Dam.
