Laboratory studies on the resistance to insect growth regulator of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L.

Three candidate insect growth regulator compounds (IGR), chlorfluazuron 5 % EC, teflubenzuron 5 % EC and NK-081 5 % EC, were tested for their efficacy to diamondback moth strains at the given dosages of 1,000 ppm (high) and 125 ppm (low). Results of evaluation were obtained among the diamondback moth and growth regulator insecticides. Bang Khae strain exhibited the highest resistance followed by Bang Bua Thong and Khao khor strain respectively. Comparison by the LC50 values, resistance level of Bang Khae and Bang Bua Thong strains decreased sharply from the 3rd generation, after field collection and being kept on rearing in laboratory without exposure to any insecticides. Selection for insect growth regulator insecticides resistance was observed from the ninth to the eleventh generation, with the same IGRs, Bang Bua Thong strain showed a potential of resistance development to chlorfluazuron 5 % EC and NK-081 5 % EC but not to teflubenzuron 5 % EC. Bang Khae strain did not show a sign of resistance development to any of the three IGR insecticides in the same manner as Bang Bua Thong strain.
