1991
Ratchanee Sae-Hang
Field trial on the growth of 'Grand Nain' banana plants derived from four kinds of planting material, two size of suckers (4-8 kg) and (1.5-2.5 kg) and two size of tissue culture (TC) propagated banana plants (26.2 cm and 16.6 cm height), has been established at Kasetsart University, Nakhon Pathom Province during December 1989 to August 1990. In the fourth month after planting, the bigger size of TC propagated plants was the highest (39.5 cm) and the plants derived from small sucker were smaller than in other treatment (69.3 cm). Also the circumference of pseudostem, the largest were the plants grown from the bigger size of TC propagated (38.0 cm) and the shortest were the plants derived from small sucker. But the plant grown from big suckers gave the biggest leaves compared with other treatments. The development of banana leatus from first appearance until fifty took time between 10-15 days which took more time by the bigger planting material.
