Determination of organochlorine insecticides, polychlorinated biphenyls and S-triazine herbicides in samples of Danube river [Yugoslavia] by gas-chromatography

Residues of organochlorine insecticides-OCI (isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane, DDT and their metabolites), polychlorinated biphenyls-PCB and s-triazine herbicides have been determined in samples of river Danube water. Extraction of OCI and PCB is performed by n-hexane, followed by purification of extract by concentrated sulphuric acid. Samples were analysed by gas chromatography on filled and capilar column, using EC-detector. S-triazine herbicides were isolated from water samples by chloroform-methanol-mixture, followed by purification of extract on the Al2O3 column. Gas-chromatographic determination of the residues of s-triazines is performed on parallel capilar columns ULTRA 1st and ULTRA 2nd, using specific NP detector. Following concentration of examined compounds were determined: total HCH - 0.079 microgram/cubic dm, total DDT - 0.110 microgram/cubic dm, total PCB - 0.05 microgram/cubic dm, and total s-triazines - 3.54 microgram/cubic dm.
