Results of a skin hypersensitivity test with phytohemagglutinin-P (PHA-P) in two-week broiler chicks show that interdigital skin is suitable for inoculation, that a dose of 100 microgram is sufficient to provoke a macroscopically expressed skin-hypersensitive response which is most expressed 12 hours after intradermal inoculation of PHA-P. In the first few days after intradermal inoculation of chicks with PHA-P, a more or less expressed absolute lymphocytosis occurs, as well as monocytosis and basocytophilia. Imported PHA-P leads to a more expressed skin-hypersensitive response and changes in leucocytopoiesis that the Yugoslav product which can also be used in studies on chicken. Results of studies of the dose and dynamics of a skin-hypersensitive response to PHA-P show that the interdigital hypersensitive skin test is quick and simple to perform on young chicks.
