Detection and interpretation of isozyme loci in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus L.) from population data

Isozyme electrophoretic techniques have been developed for a genetic diversity analysis in natural and hatchery populations of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus). Out of the 28 enzymatic systems assayed 21 showed good resolution. These systems are coded for by 43 enzymatic loci following a conservative interpretation, 33 of them could be used for population screening in turbot. Preliminary results indicate low genetic variability levels in turbot as compared with other flatfish species.
