Growing space - age related three dimensional modeling of the biomass production of hybrid poplar energy plantation

New three-dimensional response surface is developed by combining the Chapman-Richards and the Baule-Mitscherlich functions for quantitative modelling of spatial relationships in bioenergy plantations. The two independent variable equations were fitted on a biomass database of individual hybrid poplar trees. The database was collected in a short rotation narrow spacing biomass plantation in Hungary for 9 years. The independent variables are the age (Y) and the growing space (S), and the dependent variable is the wet woody biomass (W) of individual trees. The surface is asymptotic both by age and growing space, and theoretically fits into the circle of von Bertalanffy's asymptotic growth models. The age - growing space response surface of biomass production of individual trees in a new basis for the computation of stand biomass. The method gives a bridge between distance dependent single tree models and stand models
