Humet-R(R) and Iron-humat in iron supply to sows and piglet

Three experiments involving five sows per treatment were conducted from fertilization to weaning in one control and in two experimental groups. Iron supplements with inorganic bonds were given to control sows and iron supplements with organic bonds to experimental sows in the form of Humet iron chelate and Humet-R(R), according to the animals' needs. Milk samples of sows and blood samples of piglets were taken at the time of farrowing as well as on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28st days of the suckling period. Blood samples of sows were also taken at the end of the suckling period. After farrowing, one piglet from each litter was slaughtered for total body analysis. It was concluded that the Humet iron chelate treatment of sows significantly increased litter-size, litter-weight, total body iron content of piglet and haemoglobin content compared to control animals
